KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd today reiterated that the MY Rapid Transit (MRT) project would offer long term benefits to the public and enormous economic spillovers.
Group director of the government-owned company's Project Development Division, Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff, said the MRT project would transform Kuala Lumpur's transportation infrastructure, significantly reduce traffic, increase work mobility and create new employment opportunities.
It would also benefit over 10 million commuters in the Klang Valley, he said during a discussion with owners of properties near Pasar Rakyat here.
"A total of 20 lots will be acquired for the underground MRT tunneling works, namely properties along Jalan Kampung, Jalan Kamuning, Jalan Inai and Jalan Utara," he said.
During the discussion, some owners questioned why they were not consulted when the project was in planning stage. Other issues raised included the quantum of compensation.
Zulkifli said the Land and Mines Department was managing the land acquisition process and would call the affected parties to a hearing beginning Sept 5.
"During the hearing, the affected landowners can raise all factors relevant to compensation such as loss of business, renovation and other factors.
"All these will be taken into consideration when compensation is being determined," he said.
